Instructions on changing colors of ears and earrings:
What you need:
-	It is recommended you carefully read the catalog before using this instruction. You can find it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kZUaJN4b2RUJguGEdZ0Kad-0842WAOfz/view?usp=sharing
-	A picture editing software of your choice. I recommend GIMP or Photoshop.
-	Basic understanding of file directories and file types
-	Basic understanding of simple photo editing
-	Depending on what you want to change. The main skin color of your skin in hex and the .png file of your skin.

Note: You can open and edit .json files with Notepad if you don’t have any programming software.

How do I get the .png file of my skin?
1.	Open the website: https://namemc.com/
2.	Type your exact Minecraft username in the search bar and press Enter
3.	Click on your profile
4.	Click on your skin head below your skins 3D model
5.	Click the download button on the right side of the model

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 0: Preparation
To change and work with files you have to download and unzip the elf ears texture pack

Step 1: Understanding directories
1.	Open the unzipped texture pack
2.	Navigate to ./assets/minecraft/

Here you will find 3 directories:
-	models
-	optifine
-	textures
For starters you will only need the models and textures directories.
In the model directory you will find the model files of the ears and accessories.
In the texture directory you will find the prepared custom texture files to change colors.

Step 2: Choosing the right model file
1.	Navigate to ./assets/minecraft/models/item/pumpkins/custom/
2.	Here you will find 4 .json model files
   a. These are the files which we will edit using Visual Studio or Notepad
3.	First you will have to choose the right model file for what you want to change
   a. To change only the ear color you need ‘elf_ears.json’
   b. To change the button earring color you need ‘button_earring.json’
   c. To change the frieren earring color you need ‘frieren_earring.json’
   d. To change the player head earring you need ‘player_head.json’
4.	Rename the model file you need to ‘custom_ears.json’ and move the other 3 into the ‘not_used’ folder.
5.	If your file is the ‘elf_ears.json’ file you can jump to step 3

Option 1: I chose the ‘button_earring.json’ file
For this model you will have to choose or change the color of your ears and button earrings.
If you only want to change the color of the button but not of the ears then go back to ./assets/minecraft/ and navigate to ./assets/minecraft/textures/item/pumpkins/elf_ears/
Now copy the left and right ear you want into the ‘custom’ folder in this directory and name them ‘custom_left_ear’ and ‘custom_right_ear’ accordingly. If you like you can also mix and match colors.

Option 2: I chose the ‘frieren_earring.json’ file
For this model you will have to choose or change the color of your ears and Frierens earrings.
If you only want to change the color of the earring but not of the ears then go back to ./assets/minecraft/ and navigate to ./assets/minecraft/textures/item/pumpkins/elf_ears/
Now copy the left and right ear you want into the ‘custom’ folder in this directory and name them ‘custom_left_ear’ and ‘custom_right_ear’ accordingly. If you like you can also mix and match colors.

Option 3: I chose the ‘player_head.json’ file
For this model you will have to choose or change the color of your ears and a player head.
If you only want to change the player head but not the color of the ears then go back to ./assets/minecraft/ and navigate to ./assets/minecraft/textures/item/pumpkins/elf_ears/
Now copy the left and right ear you want into the ‘custom’ folder in this directory and name them ‘custom_left_ear’ and ‘custom_right_ear’ accordingly. If you like you can also mix and match colors.

Step 3: Changing the colors and textures
Navigate to ./assets/minecraft/textures/item/pumpkins/elf_ears/custom/
Here you can color the textures of your model. Open the files using a photo editing software of your choice.

As the color of the elf ears is essential to every model first we will have to change the ear colors:
1.	Open the ‘custom_left_ear’ and ‘custom_right_ear’ file
2.	Grab the main hex color of your Minecraft skin as told in the “what you need” section.
3.	Color the parts accordingly:
   a. Pink: the main color of the ear, use the main hex color here
   b. Purple: The shadows of the ear, use a slightly darker version of your hex color here
   c. Red: Your ear hole, use a slightly changed version of your hex color here
4.	Save the files as .png and make sure you don’t change their names

If your model file was the ‘elf_ears.json’ file you can now jump to step 4

Option 1: Changing the color of the button earrings
1.	Open the ‘button_custom’ file
2.	Change the red to whichever color you want your earring button to be
3.	Save the file as button_custom.png

Option 2: Changing the color of Frierens earrings
1.	Open the ‘frieren_custom’ file
2.	Change the red to whichever color you want your earring button to be
3.	The golden color is the clip holding the earring itself, you don’t necessarily have to color this but you can if you like.
4.	Save the file as frieren_custom.png

Option 3: Changing the player head ear buttons
1.	Important: In this part you need to know which part of your skins head is which to proceed
2.	Open the ‘custom_head’ and ‘custom_overlay’ file
3.	Open the .png file of your Minecraft skin as told in the “what you need” section.
4.	In both files replace the color coded sides of the head with the right sides of your Minecraft skin
   a. Red: The front of the head
   b. Lime: The back of the head
   c. Orange: The bottom of the head
   d. Blue: The right side of the head
   e. Purple: The left side of the head
   f. Green: The top of the head
5.	Save the files as .png and make sure to not change their names

Step 4: Testing
1.	Navigate to ./elfEars/
2.	Select the files 'assets', 'pack.mcmeta', ‘pack.png’
3.	Navigate to 'Share' in the File Explorer (top left)
4.	Select the yellow folder called 'zip'
5.	Name the file 'elfears.zip'
6.	Drag the 'elfears.zip' file into the resourcepacks folder. You can now activate the texture pack.
7.	Rename a carved pumpkin to 'custom ears'
